Checked into a hotel where I’d paid for the “craft beer package”—two bombers of local craft beer per night waiting in the room (rate details even specify “craft beers brewed right here in X county”), a nice way to experience local products—and found this:

Kinja'd!!!

Note: hotel is in California, not Holland. Plus, Heineken tastes like the devil’s taint sweat if the devil’s balls were made of aluminum. For $6, I’m inordinately annoyed.

Went to Scuttlebutt today. You should check it out.

Also your Heineken description was perfect. Tastes like rancid aluminum liquid.

This comment makes me think we should have a Seattle Beerlopnik meetup at a brewery.

Always hated Heineken until I had it with beer nuts on a layover in Switzerland. Changed my whole view on it. Only way I drink it now.

I lived in Holland for several months and Heineken was always my last resort. Amstel I could abide but give me a bottle of Grolsch Herfst Bok and I’d be your friend for life but as the name suggests (Autumn Buck), only available in the Autumn so my default where possible was Guinness Original or Export.

Saying that, if I was staying in a U.S. Hotel and they gave me Heineken in place of a craft beer because they ran out or something, I’d be truly thankful they never left a bottle of Bud or Coors as I’d pour it over their heads and if it was a ‘lite’ version I’d break it over their heads.

Have you had Heinie in the states? The green bottle means it’s usually skunked, in addition to being crap to begin with. I think I'd (reluctantly) take the Bud heavy.

I'm envisioning sort of a cereal situation, with a beer poured into a bowl of nuts and eaten with a spoon. I know that's not what you meant but it's a hell of an image.

Not been to the U.S. yet.

I recently had a couple of Shipyard American IPAs and East Coast IPAs which weren’t bad (I’m slowly making my way through all the beers we sell at work.).

I always knew that there was a heaven. And Heineken in the US is a terrible beer. Rather have water. Probably. Maybe not.

That’s one side of the aisle, the other is bulk packs of 4s up to 30s and there is another one and a bit aisles of alcohol.

If it came down to bad beer or water I honestly would go for the water unless the company I was in was so insufferable I just needed the alcohol to make it bearable.

I find that most company is insufferable and requires alcohol. Except my car.

So true. But it is nice to have a beer or two in the summer while cleaning the car.

Any green bottle beer here in the US is terrible. I don’t understand why companies still use them. It’s frustrating if the beer is actually good if had from something other than a green bottle. Tsingtao is an example imo.

Do they call it BWS at Asda? I’ve got a friend who actually became something of a wine aficionado after working BWS at Sainsbury’s for a couple of years.

Ye’, BWS=Beers, Wines and Spirits

If your contracted to BWS you could request to go on a week long training course on wine.

I invariably get asked to assist customers because few others know their wines and if I get a customer who genuinely interested I take the time to explain it.

I like Heineken but you got screwed. Not exactly craft beer. If it is, then so is Bud.

On a more happy note, I just flew across the country on an airline that had craft beer on the plane. Alaska Airlines, ladies and gentlemen.

Ever had Heineken Dark? Incredibly smooth and delicious. I’m not a fan of regular Heineken either.

If I can get Heineken cheap, then I’m okay with it - this is typically more for effect rather than for taste. In no way is this craft beer, and it’s something I’d kindly point out to the hotel.

Even if you were in Amsterdam, you’d be better off trying the stuff from Brouwerij ‘t IJ (a local told me it’s some sort of pun about eggs or something) or the many, many glorious things made in neighbouring Belgium.

Heineken brewed in Europe is vastly better than what we get here in the states.

Similarly, Budweiser that’s brewed in Ireland is actually pretty good.

Heineken in the Netherlands, its home market, is still cheap very mediocre beer. Beer you drink if you don’t care about beer and just want to get drunk yet don’t want to drink anything stronger.
